So it's been over a year since my last, and first post. Since then I seem to have lost a healthy dose of the idealism I used to possess. Don't get me wrong, things could be worse. But they could be a hell of a lot better too.
On a completely related side note, being a college graduate is the worst. In the year and half since I have graduated college, I have had zero legitimate job offers and have realized that a B.A in Journalism is about as useful as a GED. With no contacts and no experience, my chances of finding a career are right up there with the chances of snow falling in Hell.
That might sound like complaining to some people, and that's because it is. It's completely insane that I spent seven years and 70,000 bucks for a degree that means squat.
Well, I suppose that's enough of my whining for one day. Until next time....

Bright Side

So, today I woke up feeling a sense of vague disappointment. I turned 26 yesterday, which in and of itself it not a high achievement. Lets be honest, birthdays come every year, like clockwork, whether we like it or not. For me, every year I try to come up with a list of things I'd accomplished since last year. But this year, I found it hard to make that list. I found myself feeling sorry for myself. After months of searching I still haven't found a full time job. John and I have completely outgrown our studio apartment. My student loan debt is hanging over my head like a guillotine. And I am finding it increasingly impossible to plan a wedding on a $5,000 budget. I began to pity myself. But it was in that same moment that I thought to myself, "Self, pull your stuff together." Instead of spending the next week in my pajamas, eating nothing but Nestle cookies and Chinese take out, I decided to look on the bright side. I am engaged to the most wonderful man in the world, bright side. After seven years, I finally graduated from college, bright side. Through some miracle, we manage to pay our bills, drive a nice car, and even treat ourselves to dinner and a movie every now and then, bright side. My life, isn't perfect, but it is fan-freakin-tastic. On that note, I urge anyone reading this to look at the bright side. Things may not be great, they might be down right awful, but there is always, always a bright side.

So smile.
